Alert: New Terrorist Threat Against Swedish Cartoonist Lars Vilks PDF Print E-mail

Cartoonist Lars Vilks reports a threat from a Somali terrorist group, probably the same one who claimed responsibility for last week's attempt on Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard in Aarhus, Denmark.

In 2005 Lars drew an image of the Prophet Mohammad as a dog, an animal considered as "Haraam" or taboo by many Muslims.

A story on the monstersandcritics.com web site dated January 4, 2010 reports that Vilks reported that he received two separate phone calls originating form Somalia, the caller claiming that they were on the way to get him. The story by Deutche Presse-Agentur says that Vilks called the police to report the threats.

Wikipedia.com reports that Vilks had been put under a death threat by the Islamic State of Iraq offering a reward of up to $150,000 for his killing.

Cartoonists Rights Network, International continues to condemn all such threats against the lives of cartoonists. Fundamentalist terrorist threats such as these demonstrate to the world the kind of order they would bring to the world if they succeed in their aims.
