This archive contains those political cartoons that actually caused a human rights attack. Accompanying each cartoon is a story of what happened to the cartoonist.

For most of the featured cartoonists, these drawings were the start of an agonizing process that heavily impacted their lives and the lives of their families. Violence works. Violence is one of humanity's most successful tools of social change. Read any newspaper. Many cartoonists were driven from their trade, some have survived jail sentences, and all have been mentally and physically wounded.

Most cartoonists in this archive were charged with libel law infractions. Some were threatened with violence, some were physically abused, and a few have been murdered. Every cartoon represents a story as dramatic as anything Hollywood could ever produce.

How can you help? CRN would like to connect you with a top class cartoonist somewhere in the world who is in extreme danger. They need pens, paper, ink, and other tools of their trade. The best thing a sympathetic citizen can do is adopt a cartoonist and make sure they can practice their trade. Cartoons can be as powerful as violence. For the cartoonist, just knowing that someone cares about them, that someone knows of their sacrifice, is often the difference between hope and despair.
